Dr Protima Deb

Dr Protima Deb is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist working at The Royal London Hospital. Her early paediatric training was at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where she achieved Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics in 2006. She was appointed to the Higher Specialist Training Programme in Paediatric Gastroenterology in The London Deanery and completed her training in 2014.

Dr Deb is a "self-confessed research enthusiast". Her specialist area of interest is inflammatory bowel disease. Her work looking at the microbiome in childhood Crohn’s disease was the subject of her doctoral thesis which she was awarded from Queen Mary University of London in 2019. She continues her research work with an honorary contract at Queen Mary University, based at the Blizard institute, where she continues to explore the field of microbiome and inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Alasdair Bamford is a consultant and specialty lead in paediatric infectious diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital, an Honorary Associate Professor at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and secretary of the British Paediatric Allergy Infection and Immunity Group (BPAIIG). He also works at the MRC Clinical Trials unit as a clinical advisor to a number of international clinical trials and cohort studies relating to paediatric HIV and other childhood infections. He is PI and co-PI for a number of observational studies and trials at Great Ormond Street. He is the lead author of the Penta/EACS guidelines for treatment of paediatric HIV in Europe and other national and international guidelines relating to the care of children affected by infectious diseases.

Marietta obtained her MD degree from Albert Szent Gyorgyi School of Medicine in Hungary. She completed her BST training in Paediatrics in Ireland and MRCPCH through training in North Central and East London. Marietta entered Paediatric Neurology subspecialty training in 2017 and trained at St George's Hospital and at Great Ormond Street and obtained her CCT in March 2021.

Marietta has developed strong interest in leadership and training during her senior training years. As member and subgroup lead of the London School of Paediatrics Trainees Committee, she has improved training quality, provided better opportunities and support for Paediatric trainees across London. Her particular interest was supporting less than full time trainees and Paediatric Neurology subspecialty trainees. She has been just appointed as a Training Programme Director for London School of Paediatrics.

Marietta also has a strong leadership portfolio. Throughout her training years she was departmental then directorate trainee representative, lead projects related to information governance, legal aspects of care and wellbeing, supported by the medical director's office. As recognition of her work, the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management has awarded her with Associate Fellow membership.

Marietta has been appointed as Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at King's College Hospital in 2021. She has an interest in Paediatric Neurodisability and Neurovascular disorders. She provides an outreach tertiary Paediatric Neurology service to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley.
