Dr Laura Hunter

Dr Laura Hunter is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London. She completed Emergency Medicine Higher Specialist Training in Merseyside Deanery, prior to her move to London in 2010. Special areas of interest include recreational drug toxicity, Inclusion Health and the development of Routine Blood Borne Virus screening within the Emergency Department.

Dr Protima Deb

Dr Protima Deb is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist working at The Royal London Hospital. Her early paediatric training was at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where she achieved Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics in 2006. She was appointed to the Higher Specialist Training Programme in Paediatric Gastroenterology in The London Deanery and completed her training in 2014.

Dr Deb is a "self-confessed research enthusiast". Her specialist area of interest is inflammatory bowel disease. Her work looking at the microbiome in childhood Crohn’s disease was the subject of her doctoral thesis which she was awarded from Queen Mary University of London in 2019. She continues her research work with an honorary contract at Queen Mary University, based at the Blizard institute, where she continues to explore the field of microbiome and inflammatory bowel disease.

Mr Joseph Curry

Mr Curry is the senior consultant in neonatal and paediatric surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
His main areas of interest are in gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract.
He is currently the South England representative on the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons executive committee. He holds a post-graduate Certificate and Diploma in medical education from the University of London. He is a member of faculty of surgical trainers at the Edinburgh College of Surgeons.
He has published over one hundred peer-reviewed articles and 16 book chapters and presented over one hundred and ten times to national and international conferences. He regularly reviews articles for journals such as the Journal of Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Surgery International and Prenatal Diagnosis and is the speciality editor for the annals of the royal college of surgeons.

Dr Ffion Davies

Dr Ffion Davies is an Emergency Physician who spends the majority of her time working as a paediatric emergency consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester in the UK.

She’s an active member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in the UK and is trained in adult and paediatric emergency medicine and she is an Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Leicester.

Her career has been dedicated to raising standards of care for children in emergency departments and to that end, she has been involved with developing training programmes for doctors in Emergency Medicine and in Paediatrics, creating the eLearning website www.spottingthesickchild.com,

Amongst her publications she authored the textbook Emergency Care of Minor Trauma in Children, and she continuously assist Royal Colleges and government bodies on improvement projects relating to Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

This year Ffion added another job title and another step in her successful medical career, she is now president of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM).

Saira is a Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, King's College Hospital, London. She has been a consultant at King’s since 2011 and her special interests include in Musculoskeletal and MR imaging.

Dr Michelle Jacobs

Michelle is an RCEM consultant with subspecialty accreditation in paediatric emergency medicine and works at Northwick Park hospital in Harrow, as the ED clinical lead for paediatric ED.

Her particular area of interest and focus for several years has been on the management of adolescents in the ED and beyond- delivery of developmentally appropriate healthcare for this often neglected) age group and working towards improving the experience and the care which we provide to them. On this topic she has researched, and published and spoken at many national meetings and events. I am a member of the RCEM Paeds emergency medicine professional advisory group and the RCPCH intercollegiate emergency standards committee to further this work.

Dr Andrew Jones is a Consultant at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and at the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).
His professional interest include

• Medical education and clinical simulation
• Dr Jones is also unit training director for paediatric intensive care medicine at Gosh

Dr Alasdair Munro

Dr Alasdair Munro is a clinician in paediatric emergency medicine and a clinical research fellow specialising in paediatric infectious diseases, including early and late phase clinical trials of vaccines and antibiotics, at the NIHR Clinical Research Facility Southampton and University of Southampton, that is the National Institute for Health and Care Research
Since 2020 he has been leading the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health review of published evidence regarding COVID-19 in children, as well as working as senior fellow on a number of COVID-19 vaccine candidate clinical trials, including the Oxford vaccine. Dr Munro sits on the NIHR Transmission of COVID-19 in Schools (ToCS) working group .
Dr Munro’s research interests include vaccinology and clinical trials, as well as the transmission of COVID-19 in children and the role of schools in wider community transmission.
Other research interests include antimicrobial stewardship and the advanced diagnostic methods for infections in children.

Medicolegal Adviser, MDU Services Limited

Sally was a consultant in oncology before joining the MDU in 2006. She now has almost 15 years’ experience of advising MDU members from all specialties about medicolegal matters, these include complaints, inquests, crime and the GMC.
For Sally, consent and authority to treat, are often fundamental to the issues that arise, especially so where there is a disagreement as to the appropriate way forward between the various parties such as the patient, those caring for them (including the parents), and the medical team.

Dr Valeria Parlatini

Dr Valeria Parlatini is a clinical lecturer and child and adolescent psychiatrist at King's College London and South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust. Her research aims at the identification of predictors of mental health outcomes that can be used to personalise and improve clinical care. She received three international awards, including the Young Scientist Award at the World Congress on ADHD. Recently, she has been awarded the Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grant to investigate the impact of the Covid pandemic on the mental health of children and young people with pre-existing mental health conditions.
