Dr Protima Deb
Dr Protima Deb is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist working at The Royal London Hospital. She completed her medical degree at Imperial College and graduated in 2002. Her early paediatric training was at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where she achieved Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics in 2006. She was appointed to the Higher Specialist Training Programme in Paediatric Gastroenterology in The London Deanery and completed her training in 2014. After this, she pursued her academic interests and was awarded a fellowship to investigate whether enteral diets, used as first line therapy for children with active Crohn’s disease, affect the microbiota. She was appointed as a consultant during her fellowship and she continues to balance both a clinical and academic career.
Dr Protima Deb is a "self-confessed research enthusiast". Her specialist area of interest is inflammatory bowel disease. Her work looking at the microbiome in childhood Crohn’s disease was the subject of her doctoral thesis which she was awarded from Queen Mary University of London in 2019. She continues her fascinating research work uninterrupted as a consultant with an honorary contract at Queen Mary University, based at the Blizard institute, where she continues to explore the field of microbiome and inflammatory bowel disease.
Professor George du Toit
Professor of Paediatric Allergy, Kings College London and
Evelina London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
Professor du Toit focuses his practice on the diagnosis and treatment of paediatric allergies such as egg and peanut allergies, drug allergies, eczema, hay fever, asthma, and urticaria disorders. Immunotherapy to aero-allergens e.g. pollen, mould, cat, horse, dog, and dust mite is offered. Desensitisation to foods is also increasingly being offered.
Professor George Du Toit is renowned for his leading research into the prevention and treatment of food allergies at an early age and has authored numerous books and book chapters on the subject. He is also active in the education and training in the treatment and prevention of childhood allergies, and is involved in several organisations, committees, and steering groups.
He is lead clinician for the children’s drug allergy and urticaria service at St Thomas’ and past chairperson of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) paediatric section.
Dr Alasdair Munro
Alasdair Munro is a Paediatric registrar and senior clinical fellow in paediatric infectious diseases at the NIHR Clinical Research Facility at University Hospital Southampton. He has been involved in research on COVID-19 in the last few months; He is undertaking a PhD in early phase vaccine trials and the transmission of COVID-19. He has a keen interest in the clinical management of febrile children and antimicrobial stewardship.
