Best Practice in the Management of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock:
Practical Implementation in the UK Healthcare System

National conference on 7-8 March 2006 at The Radisson Edwardian Marlborough Hotel, London

This conference was a great success, especially when one bears in mind that this has been one of the first UK events focusing on the application of the Sepsis bundles across the board for a multidisciplinary audience with lectures delivered by a multi-disciplinary Faculty.

One of the main points that emerged from the conference, was the need to develop a more multidisciplinary approach in the implementation of the bundles; adopting this course of action would expand the focus further from intensive care towards other clinical areas, e.g. A&E and Medical Wards.
There was a wide consensus of opinion amongst delegates on that the concept of bundle is good but its content cannot be static, needs to gain wider support in all clinical areas and content needs to be subject to continuous review and improvements.

  • Comprehensive subject coverage and good quality lectures that complimented each other

  • Very relevant to have a nurse led triage talk as early identification is the key to mortality
